Statement of Michael P. Warsaw, President and Chief Executive Officer of EWTN Global Catholic Network regarding Father Benedict Groeschel:
To regular viewers of EWTN, it has been evident for some time that Father Benedict's health has been declining. For more than a year, the Network has been in discussions with both Father and his Community about his capacity to continue hosting Sunday Night Prime.
This is the reason that the program moved from a live to a pre-recorded format last year.
In more recent months Father Benedict’s decline has accelerated.
After consultation with EWTN and the Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, Father Benedict has decided that it is now time to step away from the program.
The Sunday Night Prime program will continue and will be hosted by other priests of the CFR community.

Fr. Groechel is a good man, yet in his old age his mind is weak like his body now. He should have been pulled off the show some time ago! I know the CFR's personaly and I am a seminarian. They tell me his is stuborn and wouldn't let go of this show. Maybe God allowed this to happen so His servant could get some rest. This old man was addicted to working wouldn't give his body rest. Hes done a lot of good for the church and for anyone to make fun of the guy is very wrong to do so. Let this old man retier now. He needs a rest.
The Editor has pulled the interview from the
National Catholic Register web site, which is owned
by the way by EWTN which hosts Fr Benedict
Groeschel's TV show. Also, ACLumsden has falsely
accused me of making an allegation "with no
supporting evidence." The supporting evidence are
the words directly from Groeschel's mouth. Please

The only person that need to be prosecuted - as you
say - are priests that make such outrageous
statements especially in light of the ongoing child
sex abuse problems in the Church.

Let's set the record straight of what caused this controversy. In a non-televised interview this Friar had the audacity to state that first offenders (clergy) of child molestation should not go to jail. He also made the ridiculous statement that child victims may have seduced priests into comimtting these atrocities. Who cares about his life's work. Once a month, long before he became known on EWTN I would take the aspirants of my congregation, the Society of St. Paul, to hear Fr. Benedict speak. He has helped millions with his preaching and countless people with his loving actions and charitable work. He has helped millions with his preaching and countless people with his loving actions and charitable work. May he grow in holiness so that when he ends his pilgrimage here on earth he will be ready to see the face of God and hear the words of our Divine Master, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
