Ayer se inauguró la estatua del beato Juan Pablo II más alta del mundo, unos 4-5 pisos de altura –13,8 metros–, que desbanca a la que hasta ahora ostentaba el récord en Chile con 12 metros.
Situada en las afueras de Czestochowa, mirando al santuario de Jasna Gora, en medio de un parque ‘de miniaturas‘ de edificios religiosos, entre los que destacan los santuarios de Lourdes, de Fátima y de Santiago de Compostela.
¡Cómo son los polacos!, hace tres años levantaban el Cristo más grande del mundo. Es animante, mientras en otros países el laicismo lucha por eliminar cualquier vestigio cristiano, inclusocalendarios o cruces (en desiertos o escuela, da igual), en los países que consiguieron escapar de la barbarie totalitaria socialista quieren volver a poner las referencias en el Señor (Jn 12,32).
Las 10 toneladas que se terminaron de pintar y ensamblar ayer, son muestra de ello. Un monumento sufragado por Leszek Lyson y su familia, en gratitud:
Siempre me guié en mi vida privada por las enseñanzas de Juan Pablo II. Para mí fue y seguirá siendo muy importante. A él le debo también la vida de uno de mis hijos que estuvo a punto de morir ahogado y, yo lo creo profundamente, se salvó gracias a Juan Pablo II.
Mis gustos artísticos no van por estos derroteros, que en cualquier caso son preferibles a las iniciativas italianas. Pero me atrae mucho, no por la mole de piedra, por la mole de cariño. Gracias Polonia por el testimonio, esto también pertenece al «Año de la Fe».

Pope John Paul II is being immortalized in the Polish city of Nowa Sol with the construction of a four story high statue.

The sculpting is being done by the Polish fiberglass company MALPOL and once complete will be the largest sculpture of the former pope ever made. The work is at the behest of an anonymous person who requested for the statue to be built. Once the statue is complete, it will be displayed in Czestochowa, a Polish city known as the home of the Black Madonna painting.

The statue of the former Pope will be approximately 14.5 to 15 meters high. The largest Pope statue is currently in Chile standing at 12 metres high. There are 20 people involved in construction, including four artists. At the moment the sculpture is getting its final touches and will be transported to its new home in Czestochowa in a few days. It took about a month to sculpt and mold the statue.

Pope John Paul II, also known as the Polish Pope, still holds much affection amongst Polish Catholics and amongst believers worldwide. He was the second longest serving Pope of all time and has been sculpted numerous times before. The latest statue of the pope was revealed in 2011 and was met with much controversy for not resembling the pontiff.
