A mixture of olive-oil and balsam, blessed by a bishop on Holy Thursday and used in administering Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders, and in the consecration of churches, altars, chalices, patens, and in the blessing of bells, and baptismal water. Chrism by itself sometimes appears in art in association with certain saints.
