SNAP kept abuse allegations quiet 'for several weeks,' Chicago archdiocese charges
April 30, 2014
SNAP, an organization that has regularly denounced Catholic bishops for their failure to disclose sex-abuse allegations, kept a report quiet “for several weeks” before holding a press conference, The Media Report notes.
SNAP (Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests) held a press conference on Easter Monday to announce charges against a priest of the Chicago archdiocese. In response, the archdiocese observed that “SNAP has been in communication with an individual ‘for several weeks,’ and only now is making the information known to authorities and the Archdiocese.” In the past SNAP has insisted that any such allegations should be reported immediately to law-enforcement officials.
The Chicago archdiocese also said that a charge by SNAP’s Barbara Blaine-- that Cardinal Francis George had reinstated three priests before removing them permanently from ministry—was “totally false.”
