Fr. Z also may have been trying not to draw too much more attention to what happened is all.
Exactly. I recently heard it referred to as the "Authority Complex." Basically, those in authority (bishops) must know what they are doing so don't beleive what your lying eyes see. Trust "Authroity" instead.

And there were plenty of comments on Fr. Z's blog who disagreed with the Father. Fr. Z also may have been trying not to draw too much more attention to what happened is all.
The Holy Father definately looked confused and unsure, and possibly hurt. What these bishops did should be of no surprise...with all the dissent in the past 50 yrs and still it increases. I guess it would take someone (like that …More

I guess it would take someone (like that crazy young girl) to pull down the pope onto the floor before anyone would even give credence to it actual happening.

It is those who sit back and do or say nothing about the abuses in the church that are just as guilty as though who did the abusing. They rather close their eyes and ears and silently hope it will all go away, rather than Defending all that is holy and true. This is the vicar of Christ and he should NOT have been treated as he was.

Sorry, Fr Z, whoever you are but it looks clearly a snub and the pope looks a little confused and unsure. The president is introducing himself well ahead of His Holiness and some bishops and cardinals are turning away, folding their hands, etc. As there is rebellion in the ranks of Germany and Austria, I fear these Princes of the Church are arrogantly snubbing the Vicar of Christ. I really hope not. If they are, may the Lord bring their haughty pride down to the dust. As many as 300 bishops in Austria, I have read, are agitating for an end to the requirement of celibacy, among a number of changes they want. That seems like a large number—how many bishops are there in Austria? In Germany? In any case, God bless and keep our beloved papa and our dear Church.

I am sorry if I made you angry.
Schoole,
It's not you. I am angry every day and today is no different.

The video is what it is and those with eyes to see, will see including non- Catholic observers. When what occured is taken in full context, it is perfectly understandable but not to be forgotten. It is an embarrassment.

The fault lies fairly and squarely with German President Wulff
who was not sufficiently attentive in noticing that the Holy

Ideally, Pope Benedict XVI should have led the President along
the line of Papal delegates. However, for a man of his age to
walk in a sideways direction would have been ill advised. It is
more than sufficient for an elderly man to walk in a forward
direction at a sedate pace (a pace that was apparently too
slow for German President Christian Wulff).

When a Head of State visits another country, that visiting
Head of State should be introduced to the senior leaders of
the host country by the hosting Head of State. The visiting
Head of State then introduces the host Head of State to the
visiting delegates. It should be noted that the delegates in
the Papal delegation line were specifically there to meet
and greet the German President and not the Holy Father.

One doesn't need to be a theologian or to have studied protocol to understand what's going on in this video. Common sense and common courtesy have been abandoned for the sake of making a statement of dissatisfaction with this man and his resolve in the face of pressure from liberals.

A pity that some in Germany (and at Gloria) lack even that small amount of common sense and courtesy.

Why would someone introduce someone (the German President) to another person (a bishop) and yet the introducer is standing several large steps behind and out of the way of the person who is supposed to be introduced? Besides, isn't the president introducing himself without assistance?

😲

The answer is that it would not happen and it did not happen in this case.

It doesn't make sense except the to the circle the wagons' types who would prefer to deny what their own eyes tell them. These poor souls would prefer some ill-informed notion of a Catholic Church free of dissent among the episcopacy which, except to the ill-informed, does not exist.

Context is everything and the context of this video explains clearly that this was a political expression of disassitisfaction with this current Pope and his refusal to bow to the will of the German bishops.

😡
