Their faith was attacked from all sides, priests who came out from the seminaries poorly formed with what seemed like a different faith, leaders in the church that were ill-equipped by life to deal with the child abuse scandals and a constant bombardment of left-wing anti-catholic propaganda. Very few made it with their faith intact in 1987 a law was passed that every radio station had to have 10 per cent of their programs dedicated to current affairs. This meant a 5-10 min "news" update every hour. A local radio station can't produce that much content by itself so it naturally will follow the lead of RTE which was originally a very conservative station.
