Feast of the Assumption of Mary as celebrated in Malta.

Malta-Mosta: Ave Maria by Ludwig Galea accompanied by SantaMarija Band Mosta.
This video shows live recording of a beautiful hymn Ave Maria sung by the renowned Maltese tenor, Ludwig Galea, accompanied by the Santa Marija Philharmonic Society Band under the direction of Mro Ray Sciberras.
The event was held at the Rotunda Square Mosta on the 9th of August 2011 for the commemoration of its 25th anniversary of the restructuring of its band.
This recorded video is one of the many numbers performed by the Santa Marija Band under the directions of Mro Ray Sciberras and Asst. Mro Charles Mizzi.

Malta-Bidnija: Feast of The Holy Family 2011
The video shows the Feast of The Holy Family celebrated at the Bidnija Church, Bidnija. Bidnija is the 2nd smallest village after Mdina. A beautiful village situated on a rural hamlet in the central northern part of Malta.
The procession was held on 17th July accompanied by St Mary's Band of Mosta.
You'll see the Bidnija Church, segments of Band Marches, Mass, fireworks by the members of St Mary's Philharmonic Society Mosta and hymn by The Bidnija Choir.
Bidnija Church: In the 1920s a church designed by master mason Salvu Zahra, was built in the area by the inhabitants themselves to serve their spiritual needs. In two years time, the church was built and each family in Bidnija decided to donate something to furnish the church. This church is dedicated to the Holy Family of Nazareth. A titular painting, together with two other works in this church are painted by Ganni Vella.

Casta Diva from Opera Norma by Bellini (Anna Netrebko)
This is one of the most beautiful Arias that has ever been composed.
We'll hear the voice of the Russian Soprano, Anna Netrebko,
It seems to be the general opinion that "Norma" is the work in which Vincenzo Bellini best displayed his gifts. He himself called it "the best of my operas."
"Norma" was first produced in 1831. The Aria "Casta Diva" that you hear in this video is a great prayer and is remarkable for its truth and beauty and dignified sweetness. Photos are from stage performances of the Opera Norma.
Anna Yuryevna Netrebko was born in Russia on18 September 1971). She is an operatic soprano. She now holds dual Russian and Austrian citizenship and currently resides in Vienna. She has been nicknamed "La Bellissima" by fans.
Netrebko was born in a family of Ukrainian and Kuban Cossack background. While a student at the Saint Petersburg conservatoire, Netrebko worked as a janitor at Saint Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre.

Luis Cobos: Three Beautiful Selections.
BEAUTIFUL SIGHTS AND SOUND - Three selections played by the Spanish Maestro Luis Cobos. Cobos' work is arrangements on existing compositions mostly classical music, traditional Spanish music, and some of his records are of the traditional music of Latin American, Central America, and Mexico.
We'll hear these selections:
Poet and Peasant Overture by Austrian composer Franz von Suppé. He was born in what is now Croatia during the time his father was working in this outpost of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Clarinet Concerto No. 2 in A major Adagio by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This Clarinet Concerto us possibly the best known part of this concerto, was composed by Mozart in 1791.
Vilja Lied (Vilja Song) - a beautiful aria from the Opera, The Merry Widow by the Austro-Hungarian composer Franz Lehár and it's concerning a rich widow, Hanna Glawari, and her attempt to find a husband.

Night on Bald Mountain showing photos of Mt Vesuvius, in Naples.
Night on Bald Mountain is a composition by the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky that exists in at least two versions — a seldom performed 1867 version or a later (1886) and very popular 'fantasy for orchestra' arranged by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. This is the version used in the now-classic 1940 Walt Disney animated film Fantasia.
Inspired by Russian literary works and legend, Mussorgsky made a witches' sabbath the theme of the original tone poem, completed in 1867.
We're showing photos of Mount Vesuvius (Italian: Monte Vesuvio) which is a stratovolcano on the Bay of Naples, Italy, about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. MALTA-Mosta: Wied Il-Ghasel (Honey Valley)
Brief info on Honey Valley:
Wied il-Ghasel was possibly the most picturesque and rich of the valleys. It is characterized by steep rocky sides, which support garigue and maquis communities. The cliff-like sides of the deeper parts support a rich flora. These include some remarkable species.
The Chapel of St. Paul The Hermit:
This is quite a big cave with water dripping forming stalactites and stalagmites. St. Paul the Hermit is of interest in several respects. The legend goes that a hermit living in the cave was made to help a woman with her washing. The people of Mosta suspected something wrong and stoned him all the way to Bahar ic¬-Caghaq. Where the hermit spread his cloak over the waves and sail off. The people of Mosta repented but the hermit did not return.
On the 27th January 1655 Bishop Balaguer gave permission for the building of this chapel. Grand Master Pinto used to come to pay homage to Our Lady of Grace and have a dip in the spring …More

MALTA - Dingli: Agriculture & Traditions Festival 2011
We visited Dingli Village for its annual Agriculture and Traditions Festival which was held on Sunday, May 15 and recorded some video footage.
The beautiful event was orgnasided by the Dingli Local Council.The festival was held on Dingli Cliffs near its cliffside chappel dedicated to St Magdelene. The chapel existed in mid 1600. The present one was rebuilt onto the original one. A triditional mass held at the chapel during the festival.This video contains some activities that we had attended to. It was a fun filled day with interesting and educational activities.
The activities begun from 7.00am till 6.00pm. The proposed event/festival showcased what this village has to offer in terms of agriculture and traditions.

Ave Maria of Fatima.
Our Lady of Fátima is a title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary with respect to apparitions of her to three shepherd children at Fátima in Portugal on the 13th day of six consecutive months in 1917, starting on May 13. In Portugal, She's known as ''Nossa Senhora de Fátima".
The three children were Lúcia Santos and her cousins, siblings Jacinta and Francisco Marto.
In Fatima, Portugal, in May 2000, Blessed John Paul II beatified the two children, Jacinta and Francisco, who had seen the Virgin Mary. Lucia died at the age of 97 on February 13, 2005 the date of the apparitions.

A Waltz Dream by Oscar Straus (another Symphony in White)
Oscar Nathan Straus (1870 – 1954) was a Viennese composer of operettas and film scores and songs. He also wrote about 500 cabaret songs, chamber music, and orchestral and choral works. His original name was actually Strauss, but for professional purposes he deliberately omitted the final 's', since he wished not to be associated with the musical Strauss family of Vienna. However, he did follow the advice of Johann Strauss II in 1898 about abandoning the prospective lure of writing waltzes for the more lucrative business of writing for the theatre.
Straus' best-known works are Ein Walzertraum (A Waltz Dream), and Der tapfere Soldat (The Chocolate Soldier) The waltz arrangement from the former is probably his most enduring orchestral work.

Malta: Medieval Mdina Festival 2011
This video shows some highlights of the recent Medieval Mdina Festival.
The festival which was held on May 7-8, 2011 was filled with many interesting events especially enacting the Medieval era in Malta - Knights of Malta in armour & sword fighting and weapon demonstrations, birds of prey, slaves market, human chess challenges, cultural dances and many more interesting activities and exhibition which transformed the "Silent City" of Mdina into a medieval city.
The festival in its 3rd year was Organised by the Mdina Local Council and the Malta Tourism Authority.

Our beloved Karol Wojtyla, Pope John Paul II was declared "Blessed" by H.H. Pope Benedict XVI on May 1, 2011. The man whom millions loved and who enriched the world with his existence.
These are a few highlights of his life and some of the events that took place on the day of beatification.
You'll hear the Pontifical March, "Motetum Vaticanum" which was performed for the first time on April 11, 1869 during celebrations marking Pope Pius IXs jubilee of priestly ordination.

Malta-Rabat: Good Friday Procession 22 April 2011
The Good Friday Procession held by the Franciscan Church - St Mary of Jesus (known by locals as Ta' Giezu) in the village of Rabat, Malta.
The Franciscan church of Saint Mary of Jesus (Ta’ Giezu) in Rabat is one the venues of traditional processions with statues and biblical pageants related to the Passion of Christ. The Rabat procession contains some statues which date to the 17th century.

The Glory of Easter in Malta.
The beautiful Easter Waltz "San Gwann" (St John's Waltz) played by the St George's Band, Qormi, Malta for the glorious celebration of Easter celebrated each year at St George's Parish.
The beautiful statue of Christ Risen is carried around the main streets of St George's Parish and the band plays joyful Easter Waltzes.
