The SSPX's Superior General answers some questions about the priestly society and its current status with Rome.
On the occasion of the blessing of the bells for the chapel of the St-Michel de La Martinerie school in Chateauroux, Bishop Fellay gave Present an update on the situation of the Society of St. Pius X, of which he is the Superior General.

Present: In an interview with Fideliter in 2001, you mentioned the "movement of profound sympathy from the young clergy for the Society." Has this movement grown, especially with the motu proprio in 2007?
Bishop Fellay:
Without a doubt! The motu proprio gave this movement a new impetus. And it is important to insist upon Benedict XVI's interest for the liturgy in general. He truly wished to put the entire traditional liturgy, not only the Mass, at the disposition of the priests and the faithful; this did not happen because there was too much opposition. But the young priests identify with this liturgy, precisely because it is timeless. The …More

"The risk of separation is serious. Look at the caricature of Tradition that calls itself the "Resistance", for example: it is a non-Catholic spirit that is almost sectarian. We wish to have nothing to do with it; it is a movement that is withdrawn into itself, with people who think that they are the only good and just men on earth: that is not Catholic. It is an objective, but relative danger."
Unfortunately, His Excellency puts up a straw man in his attempts to broadly dismiss the many priests and faithful that do not agree with the new orientation of the Society since the 2012 Declaration. His statement above alone is blatantly contradicted by Bishop Williamson in a sermon given just a few days ago. This can be heard approximately 24.5 minutes into the video here: www.youtube.com/watch .

Above, we see Pope Francis blessing the statue named by its sculptor, “Homeless Jesus.”
It represents the only image of Jesus Christ that the worldly can accept:
A Jesus who is downtrodden and weak; a Jesus victimized by society’s ills, not unlike so many others.
Most importantly, the “Homeless Jesus” is silent; He renders no judgments and makes no demands beyond providing an image that provokes an earthbound sense of guilt within the “haves,” while simultaneously fanning the flames of class warfare within the “have nots.”
This is the Jesus of our current pope; the one after which he intends to remodel the Church.
It is the same Jesus described by Cardinal Oscar Rodríguez Maradiaga, the man Pope Francis personally chose to lead the group of cardinals advising him on the Curia’s reorganization, who said:
The function of the hierarchy is redefined in reference to Jesus as Suffering Servant, not as “Pantocrator” – lord and emperor of this world; only from the perspective of someone crucified …More

The comments by Cardinal Maradiaga and Harvesting the Fruit have the same lacunae.
1) In so far as Christ is God, He is Pantocrakor.
2) In so far as He is Man, He is the Suffering Servant, the Victim, whose sacrifice was consummated with His Death on the Cross The function of His Human Nature in the Redemption, however, is not merely as Victim.
3) His triumph over Sin and Death was effected because Christ the Priest offered Himself as Victim in the perfect Sacrifice.
4) Thus the function of His Human Nature was both as Priest and as Victim.
5) NB: St Thomas says that the Redemption was effected by Christ's Human Nature joined as instrument (instrumentum coniunctum) to His Divine Nature.

A top Swiss court on Monday rejected an appeal by the Vatican's bank to keep secret information from one of its Swiss bank accounts suspected of being used for fraud.
Judges at Switzerland's federal criminal court allowed the transfer of most information sought by prosecutors in Italy from the account held by the Vatican bank, officially known as the Institute for Religious Works (IOR), the daily Le Temps reported.
Italian prosecutors suspect the account was used in 2007 and 2008 by third parties to launder as a donation funds from the sale of a company.
The IOR had invoked the Vatican's sovereign immunity, but the judges found that the transactions in question did not relate to functions covered by that immunity.
However, Swiss judges ruled that information not pertinent to the investigation would not be transferred.
Under pressure from its international partners, in particular the United States, Switzerland has been gradually dismantling its decades-old tradition of banking secrecy. …More

ROME — During a recent Vatican summit, the top official at the Synod of Bishops stirred controversy by reportedly telling participants they should not be “shocked” by theologians questioning Church teaching on matters such as marriage and family life.
Italian Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri also reportedly said that if the aim of the synod is simply to repeat established Church teaching and discipline, then it would be “senseless” to hold it.
An anti-abortion group called Voice of the Family issued a statement Jan. 25 objecting that Baldisseri’s comments “further undermined church teaching on the indissolubility of marriage” and created “confusion.”
To date, Baldisseri has not responded.

Late last week, the Dutch Catholic blog In Caelo et in Terra posted a translation of an interview with Archbishop Gänswein that was originally published on Christ & Welt. The Archbishop's responses range from the straightforward, to the indirect and very careful; coming through his words is a very clear desire to protect Benedict XVI from any danger.
Speaking of Pope Francis' speech on the "15 diseases" of the Roman Curia, Gänswein notes that the Curia's "reactions ranged from surprise to shock and incomprehension." To the question about who the Pope's closest advisers are, the Prefect of the Papal Household simply responds: "This questions always and consistently goes around. I don’t know." And where is the Church headed under Francis? "If you listen attentively to the words of the Pope, you will hear a clear message in them. Nevertheless, the question continuously arises of where Francis wants to lead the Church, what is his goal?"

The Sangguniang Bayan of Tabon-Tabon Leyte, located some 45 kilometers south of Tacloban City, passed a resolution on Monday naming Pope Francis “Superpope.”
Sponsored by newly installed council member Nestor Abrematea, the resolution expressed the people’s admiration for the pontiff for braving typhoon Amang in order to be with survivors of super typhoon Yolanda and to celebrate Mass with them.
The Holy Father proceeded with his flight to Tacloban in spite of a typhoon signal number 2 hoisted over Eastern Visayas on Jan. 17.
Abrematea, who just assumed post as new councilor of the town, was overwhelmed by the unanimous assent given by his colleagues on the local board and was optimistic about the immediate passage of the resolution due to the impact of the Pope’s visit in the Archdiocese of Palo.

By John L. Allen Jr.
ROME — When Pope Francis arrived in the Philippines Jan. 15, both his mind and his heart were focused on the people he was coming to see. His primary motive was to comfort the survivors of an almost apocalyptic 2013 super-typhoon, but he also knew the entire nation would be ecstatic that the pope — any pope, really — was in town.
The Philippines — 81% Catholic — arguably represent the greatest home court advantage for a pope on the face of the planet, and Francis wanted to return the favor.
Yet popes, like politicians, tend to craft their messages for multiple audiences. Although Francis’ principal concentration may have been on the Filipinos who defied a tropical storm to turn out in the millions, he simultaneously seemed to be speaking to a much smaller group, one that wasn’t even physically present.
In effect, Francis appeared to be talking to the roughly 300 bishops and other Church leaders who will make up the next Synod of Bishops on the Family in October.

The world is becoming more stupid by the hour.
We are now informed there were estimated 6 million people at the Francis’ “mass” in the Philippines. This will certainly go in the Guinness Book of Records.
Mission accomplished, then.
Do people really still understand what a Mass is? How can there be a “6 million people Mass”? In what are these six million doing anything different from looking at a Wimbledon tennis match from the screens outside? If I see a televised ceremony of something happening, say, one km away from me, how am I participating? Should the Mass not consist in the devout following of the proceedings; the kneeling in front of the Tabernacle when we get in and out; the kneeling at the rail when we receive; the obvious; blatant; physical fact that we have been there? Of course a Mass does not have to be in a church (an army in the field cannot carry a church with it), but should there not be an obvious, physical link, a being there, and being there devoutly, in a devout …More

@DrJoe, thank you for your insightful analysis. To a large degree you are asking one basic question, i.e.: "How can it be that ...?" I ask you to suggest an answer. A Jewish colleague of mine once noted that Pope Francis is more interested in saving the world than saving souls. The MEGAmegachurch is in accord with Pentecostalism and its whoopy-up emotionalism and the Pope shows sympathy for Pentecostalism (even at one point asserting an equivalence between Catholic baptism and Pentecostal water pouring, viz., baptism). If I accept, reflect upon and theorize on my colleague's impression of the "saving" activity of the Pope, such encounters make prima facie sense. Not the Holy Mass, rather an "event" (imitating a megachurch EVENT) is apropiate. Your reference to the Parteitag of the Nazis is excellent and I have already made the comparison in a comment below. “They are left alone and undefended like the Jews," charges an authoritative rabbi. Under the illusion that this will facilitate peace with the Muslims. A survey of the situation described by an Israeli Jesuit expert.
ROME, January 20, 2015 – The journey of Pope Francis to Asia has left behind his memorable words on the massacres in Paris, when he demonstrated that he understood the violent reaction of those who see their faith insulted and derided: “If a friend uses a curse word against my mama, he's going to get punched! It's normal! It's normal!”
These words of his echoed around the world and were music to the ears of much of the Muslim world, which sympathizes with the murder of the impious illustrators of “Charlie Hebdo.”
At the same press conference, however, Francis had something else to say: “Always, for me, the best way to respond is meekness. To be meek, humble like bread, without undertaking aggression.”
And these other words of his sounded like a commandment …More

The < -slm- > in Islam means < subjugation/submission. Islam is first and foremost neither a religion of peace nor of war. It is a religion of power, i.e., subjugation. The subjugated are to surrender in th form of submission. Submission ceritifies in the mind of the islamic believer that the one submitting is weak, unworthy and, hence, the object of subjugation. When the Pope says that "meekness" is the right way to respond the Pope inadvertently has rendered "submission" and thereby certified in the Islamic mind the correctness of the previous acts of subjugation. At times it is hard to distinguish between a feigned meekness and an obfiscated cowardliness.

The Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu in northern Malawi, on Thursday 15th January, lost their bishop through a tragic road crash. According to the Communications office of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, a rear tire burst and caused the bishop's car to spin out of control; Bishop Zuza was in the process thrown out of the car. The accident happened at Nthungwa, in the Chikangawa forest reserve.

The Vatican has released a 26-page preparatory document, or Lineamenta, ahead of the Ordinary Synod of Bishops which will take place at the Vatican in October 2015.
The document, based on the final report on the extraordinary synod on the family which convened earlier this year, includes 46 questions for national bishops’ conferences around the world.
According to Catholic News Service, the report asks about “possible steps” and “unnecessary impediments” to “sacramental pastoral care” of “remarried divorcees”. And, in reference to “persons with a homosexual tendency”, it asks, “how to propose to them the demands of God’s will in their situation?”

Apostolic Administrator of Armenian Catholics in Jordan and Jerusalem Speaks on Francis' Recent Visit to Turkey.
Pope Francis’ visit to Turkey can be read from several points of view. Truly a “Pontifex,” the Holy Father is certainly seeking to build bridges with the moderate Muslim world. This was seen in the various gestures of fraternity and willingness to dialogue.
Four of the countries that the Pope has visited since his election are Muslim: Jordan, Palestine, Albania and Turkey. On his return trip, the Bishop of Rome mentioned to journalists the explicit hope he expressed to Recep Tayyip Erdogan: “It would be good if all Muslim leaders, political, religious and academic leaders, condemned terrorism clearly and say that that is not Islam.”
The Holy Father’s strategy is to contain the clash of civilizations and religions, inviting those who believe in the good and in coexistence to state their alignment.
An element that could be expected from the visit was, undoubtedly, that of asking …More

Vatican reformers have discovered hundreds of millions of euros that did not appear on the Holy See’s balance sheet, the cardinal charged with sorting out the Curia’s financial affairs has said.
Writing exclusively in the first issue of the new Catholic Herald magazine, Cardinal George Pell says that the discovery means that the Vatican’s finances are healthier than they first appeared.
He writes: “It is important to point out that the Vatican is not broke. Apart from the pension fund, which needs to be strengthened for the demands on it in 15 or 20 years, the Holy See is paying its way, while possessing substantial assets and investments.
“In fact, we have discovered that the situation is much healthier than it seemed, because some hundreds of millions of euros were tucked away in particular sectional accounts and did not appear on the balance sheet. It is another question, impossible to answer, whether the Vatican should have much larger reserves.”

BELEM, Brazil – The largest Roman Catholic geographical district in Brazil, located deep in the Amazon along the Xingu River, has more than 800 Catholic congregations but only 27 priests.
Bishop Erwin Krautler, prelate of Xingu, has argued that the situation calls for drastic measures. In April, he took his case to the Vatican, where he met with Pope Francis. Recently, Krautler and Cardinal Claudio Hummes, a friend of Pope Francis, presented the idea of ordaining married community elders to Brazil’s National Conference of Bishops, which is now in the process of forming a commission to delve deeper into the matter.
Krautler said he counted himself among a group of bishops, mostly in the developing world, who see the ordination of such elders as a potential solution for the countless rural congregations that cannot receive the sacraments, including Communion, marriage, and baptism.
“The situation of Xingu is not an exceptional situation,” Krautler said. “All of the …More

In an interview with Ireland’s state broadcaster, RTE, one of the Catholic hierarchy’s most outspoken defenders of life and family and the Church’s sexual moral teachings again indicated Pope Francis needs to “clarify” that divorced and remarried Catholics, and active homosexuals, cannot be admitted to the sacraments.
As he did during the course of the contentious Extraordinary Synod of Bishops in Rome last month, Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke told RTE in a video interview, “I believe very strongly that – I’m not the pope, and I’m not in the business of telling him what to do – but in my judgment this needs to be clarified, and there’s only one person who can clarify it at this point.”
The possibility of the Church in any way accepting sexual immorality, whether in the form of divorce, “second marriages” or homosexual acts, he said, must be taken “off the table” for next year’s Synod in a definitive way that only the pope can accomplish.

I’m going to say something many of my fellow secularism advocates would probably not appreciate: I like Pope Francis.
Why?
I like Pope Francis because, in my opinion, he is more liberal than many liberals. American conservatives already hate him for his seemingly liberal position on many issues. He’s so liberal that Sarah Palin is actually taken aback by what she calls his “liberal agenda.” The Pope is so liberal that writer Damian Thompson, in an article he wrote for “The Spectator,” had to ask if we were in the early stages of a Catholic civil war.
Apparently, even Catholics think the Pope is too liberal. Fr. Dwight Longenecker writes:
“Some have given up on Pope Francis. Others say he is ‘the false prophet’ who will accompany the anti Christ in the end times. Others don’t like his dress sense, grumble about his media gaffes and some think they are all intentional and that he is a very shrewd Jesuit who wants to undermine the Catholic faith.”
