En su vestición, el hermano Marcial recibe el nombre de hermano José. El Padre Prior invita al postulante a entrar. Este, manifiesta a viva voz su deseo de dedicar completamente su vida al servicio de Dios y de ser aceptado en la comunidad religiosa. Imitando el gesto de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo que el Jueves Santo deja a sus discipulos la lección final de amor fraterno , el Padre Prior, de rodillas, le lava los pies al postulante mientras se entona el canto Ubi Caritas: «Donde hay caridad y amor, ahí está el Señor». Después de despojarle de sus vestidos seculares se le reviste con el nuevo hábito monástico. Este sencillo rito representa la muerte del hombre viejo y el momento del nacimiento al hombre nuevo. Dieser äußert seinen Wunsch, sein ganzes Leben Gott zu widmen und in die Gemeinschaft einzutreten. In Nachahmung der Geste unseres Herrn Jesus Christus, der am Gründonnerstag seinen Anhängern eine letzte Lektion der brüderlichen Liebe hinterließ, kniet der Prior vor dem Postulant und wäscht seine Füße während des Gesangs Ubi Caritas: ›Wo Eintracht und Liebe ist, da ist Gott.‹ Dann zieht der Prior ihm seine weltliche Kleidung aus und zieht ihm das Mönchsgewand an—Symbole für den alten und den neuen Menschen. Die Zeremonie endet mit dem Gesang der Komplet. Vestizione di Fra' Martial, diventato Fra' Giuseppe. Il Padre Priore invita il postulante ad entrare. Costui manifesta ad alta voce la sua voglia di dedicare la sua vita a Dio e di essere accettato nella comunità. Ad imitazione del gesto del nostro Signore Gesù Cristo, che il Giovedi Santo volle lasciare ai suoi seguaci una lezione finale di amore fraterno, il Padre Priore, in ginocchio davanti al postulante, gli lava i piedi al canto del Ubi Caritas: "Dove regna l'amore e la carità, là regna Dio". Poi lo spoglia dei suoi vestiti laici e gli consegna l'abito monastico. Questa ceremonia rappresenta l'abandono dell'uomo vecchio e la nascita dell'uomo nuovo. La cerimonia si conclude con il canto di compieta. Il novizio intona, per la prima volta, la lezione breve: "Fratelli, siate sobri e guardate, perché il vostro avversario, il diavolo, gira come un leone ruggente cercando chi divorare. Resistete a lui, forti nella fede!"

Vêture de Frère Martial, devenu Frère Joseph. Le Père Prieur demande d’abord qu’on fasse entrer le postulant. Celui-ci manifeste à voix haute sa volonté de consacrer toute sa vie à Dieu et d’entrer dans la communauté. À l’imitation du geste de Notre-Seigneur Jésus Christ, qui le Jeudi Saint voulut laisser à ses disciples une ultime leçon de charité fraternelle, le Père Prieur, à genoux devant le postulant, lui lave les pieds au chant de l’Ubi Caritas : « Où règnent l’amour et la charité, là règne Dieu ». Ensuite, il le dépouille de ses habits séculiers et le revêt de l’habit monastique, symboles du vieil homme et de l’homme nouveau. La cérémonie se termine par le chant des complies. Le novice entonne alors, pour la première fois, la leçon brève : « Frères, soyez sobres et veillez, car votre adversaire, le diable, rôde comme un lion rugissant cherchant qui dévorer. Résistez-lui, forts dans la foi ! »
