The Long Island nun, recognized as the world’s oldest living sister, celebrated her birthday on April 20 with a modest gathering at the convent of the Sisters of St. Dominic in Amityville, New York. Born in Central Islip, Sister Francis entered religious life in 1931 at just 17 years old. She earned the distinction of the world’s oldest nun in 2025 when Sr. Inah Canabarro Lucas, an older nun in Brazil, died at the age of 116. Over the course of her lifetime, she has witnessed the leadership of ten popes, including receiving a special proclamation from Pope Leo as part of her birthday celebration.
